Top 2 Social Media Mistakes to Avoid in 2019

Another year has begun! This signifies new trends, new do’s and don’ts, and some not-so-new core social media practices that should be carried into your new year. We’re going to get started with some relevant and easily made Social Media Mistakes to avoid in 2019. Think of these as guiding lights as you venture into a new year full of opportunity. While there are so many more social media mistakes to be made out there, we felt like addressing these two is a great place to get started. Grab a cup of coffee and get comfortable because here we go…

Clearly, the entire point of owning your own business is to provide goods or services and make a living. We get that. So naturally you’ll want to take advantage of the free market that social media platforms provide to be seen, heard, and hopefully taken seriously. While it is necessary to showcase what your business has to offer and more importantly, why it is a step above the rest, it is also important not to over sell. One of the biggest social media mistakes people make while developing and tweaking their strategies is overwhelming their customers with too much ‘for sale’ jargon and ultimately driving their interest down and eventually, driving them away. Keep it simple and find a healthy balance between posting for sale content and other relevant stuff. Even then, try to keep your ‘hey we offer this, come talk to us’ content simple and intriguing. This keeps people easily satisfied because you are getting to the point and sparking their interest at once. With time, you will be able to use your analytics to modify your strategy. In the meantime, ask yourself honestly if what you’re dishing out now would cause you to stop, think, and ultimately be left wanting more?

As human beings in a world full of constant change and busy days, we get loads of chances to fulfill

our inner social butterfly. At home with family, in the office with coworkers, on your morning coffee run. So why is it that so many of us lack the follow through to consistently engage with our followers once we’ve implemented our social media strategy? This is undoubtedly one of the biggest and most commonly made social media mistakes. I mean, we put in all this work to develop a strategy that we hope will work for us and the first sign that it is working, is when people are commenting, liking, or re-tweeting, so when that starts happening why do we fall off the face of our platforms? The time to channel and wake up your inner social butterfly is now! You’ve already drawn them in, now it’s time to hook them and keep them wanting more! Do not leave comments alone, respond to them! Do not leave questions unanswered, address them! Do not leave kudos hanging, thank them! Even negative comments or reviews provide an opportunity that is beneficial for business. Engage, Engage, Engage! There, we said it.

Now, take these two social media mistakes, write them on a mental sticky note if you need to, and put them on your radar permanently! We’re confident that with any plan for improvement, you’ve got to start somewhere and not making these social media mistakes in 2019 is sure to get you headed in the right direction.
